In-House Hardware, Networking and Software - Accounting, Taxation & Auditing

At Meyer and Associates we use the most advanced technology available for all of our in-house computers.  On the tax and accounting side of the business we operate two separate servers.  Our main server is our application and data server.  It is operated on the Windows 2000 Server operating system.  All of the employee workstations are "dumb" terminals, connecting to the server via a terminal services connection, which is a  component of the Windows 2000 Server operating system.  The use of terminal services allows the tax and accounting staff to work from home during inclement weather or evenings during tax season.  This server has a reliable data backup system to guard against loss of data due to system failure or other catastrophic event.

Our other server is used solely for our internet connection, web hosting and email.  It is protected by both a hardware and software firewall, as well as real-time anti-virus protection.  By keeping these outside connections totally separate from our application and data server, the integrity and confidentiality of data stored on the main server is completely secure from outside hackers.

Preparation of all tax returns
Practice by CCH Billing software
Engagement by CCH Write-up software for compilation, reviews and audits
Business Works by Best Accounting software
Quickbooks by Intuit* Accounting software
Winfiler Payroll taxes and W-2
Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel and Powerpoint
   
*Four different versions of Quickbooks are supported on our system (the 2001 through the 2004 versions).  We are also a Quickbooks Pro Advisor firm.

Meyer and Associates is able to electronically file all tax returns, including extensions, using Prosystem FX.  In addition, we are licensed to electronically file in all 50 states and can also file the Michigan Single Business Tax Returns.

Third-Party Administration

For our third-party labor union fund administration department, we utilize a separate server that uses the Windows 2000 server operating system.  The main function of this server is to record, calculate and track each union member's eligibility for health, welfare and pension benefits.  This is done using a software program known as MemberTrack.net.  This software allows the Meyers staff to calculate and retrieve any member's current information immediately.  For more information on this benefit administration software, please visit http://www.membertrack.net.


Outside Services

In addition to the work done in-house, it is not uncommon for the staff to visit clients at their offices and support their accounting software and computer systems.  Outside of the office, we support a variety of accounting software packages including Peachtree, MAS90 and Buildsoft. 

Several of our office staff are Quickbooks Pro Advisors.  This allows us to keep clients' Quickbooks software updated at a reasonable cost and keep current with regard to the latest changes and updates from Intuit.  We also maintain the current Accountant's Review copy of Quickbooks, which enables us to make any necessary changes and upload the changes to the client's software.  This allows the client to continue to do business without overwriting any interim work.  Intuit requires its Quickbooks pro advisors to take a four-part test when any new version of their program is issued, guaranteeing that the pro advisors are proficient in all aspects of Quickbooks.
 


Accounting Software

Meyer & Associates is reseller of a  mid-sized accounting software package known as Business Works, developed by Sage Software.  We have been using Business Works in-house for several years.  It will track inventory and job costing and has accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions.  This software can purchased in a modular system which allows for a more custom-designed software solution.  For more information on Business Works, please visit http://www.sagesoftware.com/businessworks/.

Meyer & Associates is also a reseller of Quickbooks.  Intuit has developed several industry-specific versions of Quickbooks, and we are able to resell and support all of the current versions of the software.  In addition to the resale of the software, Meyer & Associates also offers a package program where we will purchase, install, and support Quickbooks for one full year.  This package also includes a training program to get your staff up to speed on the operation of the software.  To find out more information about Quickbooks, please visit http://www.quickbooks.intuit.com.
